Ngungraw village in South West Khasi Hills District is located on top of a plateau surrounded by deep gorges on all sides. The village is about 24 Kms from Mawkyrwat, the District Head Quarter and has around 400 household with a population of about 1500 people. Famous for oranges, specially the favourite Khasi mandarin, horticulture is the primary source of income for the farmers. Other fruits abundantly grown in this region are pineapples, beetle nuts, pepper and bay leaves.
Left unconnected for decades due to the lack of proper road, the connectivity of the village road ended at Rangjadong village which is about 8.5 Kms from the main road i.e. Jakrem Ranikor Road that passes through this region. With the construction of 3 KMs road from Rangjadong to Ngungraw village under PMGSY, the life of the people has improved tremendously. The road has reduced the travel time of the villagers and has brought a huge improvement in the socio-economic conditions of the people. Due to the construction of Ngungraw all-weather road, it has become easy for the people to transport essential commodities including forest & horticultural produces to nearby villages and earn their living.
