The government understands the need of oxygen to fight Covid pandemic and has taken all necessary measures to ensure sufficient availability of oxygen in the state. To augment the process the government has approved the set-up of an oxygen cryogenic plant at the Baljek area of Jengjal, which is a tri-junction that connects all five Garo Hills districts. The proposed plant is situated at a strategic location and will be able to fulfil the needs of the five districts of Garo Hills as well as neighboring West Khasi Hills district.&nbsp;The government is optimistic about this new plant and believes that this plant will be a life saver for people in future.

In its endeavor to provide maximum support to people during this Covid 19 pandemic, the Govt of Meghalaya has set up the oxygen plant at Byrinhat in Ri-bhoi district. The plant was set up to support the state govt in meeting oxygen exigencies during the second wave of corona pandemic. The plant with its existing capacity to produce 2000 cubic meter of oxygen per day was able to provide adequate amount of oxygen during exigencies. At a time, when every state was facing oxygen crisis, the Byrinhat plant was fully functional and helped the govt. in dealing with second wave of pandemic. To understand the capacity and effectiveness of the plant, Mr. Conrad Sangma himself inspected the plant and expressed his satisfaction on state’s preparedness to fight against pandemic crisis

Leveraging the role of VOs and SHGs Joy Dkhar who lost her mother during the pandemic is now living with her father and siblings. The challenge for the family was inability of the family to pay the hospitalization bill of their mother. The Village Organization came forward to help her repay the hospitalization bills. Her problem aggravated with lockdown, due to which the family suffered economically, socially, and mentally. She received support from the VO and VOEC to meet her food security needs. Later, she joined SHGs and VOs to create awareness on Covid-19 and coordinated with ASHA/AWW in making and distributing mask/sanitizer etc. After, becoming a part of the awareness program, she gained knowledge on appropriate immunity measures to be adopted and imparted the same to her family and the community.

The Tirot Sing Memorial Hospital located in the Sangshong locality in Mairang, West Khasi Hills is a shining example of cleanliness, hygiene, sanitation, waste management and infection prevention practices.&nbsp;The Hospital has been recognized and honored with the Kayakalp Award 2021 in the Civil Hospital Category. During his visit, Meghalaya Chief Minister Mr. Conrad K Sangma has congratulated the entire staff of the hospital for maintaining cleanliness and hygiene in the hospital and taking all necessary steps to prevent any infection spread due to Covid 19 pandemic.

In a fight against COVID Pandemic, the government of Meghalaya has taken a holistic approach to deal with the situation.  Construction of new hospitals, set-up of oxygen plants, immunization program, awareness campaign, distribution of provisional kits, Corona Care Centers, Vaccination Programs are some of the measures taken by the government to contain the spread of pandemic in the state. The government has also launched an online portal http://meghalayaonline.gov.in/covid/login.htm for regular updates on COVID progress made by the state.

To help people deal with Covid 19 pandemic in rural Meghalaya, all ASHA workers are provided with a ‘Rescue Script’, an emergency medical kit for the people with symptoms of Covid-19 in the remotest part of the state with access to medication. They have been of great support to the government in dealing with the Covid pandemic. They administer these medications under the guidance of Medical Experts through phones. They are also helping to take teleconsultation to the remote areas.&nbsp;
