The government has introduced smart classrooms in schools across East Jaiñtia Hills, significantly transforming the teaching-learning dynamic for both educators and students. Kongka Dhar, a teacher at Sein Raij Higher Secondary School in Jalaphet, East Jaiñtia Hills, emphasized the benefits of this initiative, stating, "It helps both the teachers and students to learn the topics systematically, which makes it easier to further provide education to the students in the school."

Romio.A.Sangma, a student of Class:XII, St.Dominic.H.S.School Garobadha, South West Garo Hills, was always keen to learn computers to be among the generation of students who are not only aware but expert in using computers to study, to simulate problems and learn from the vast knowledge repository in internet.Government of Meghalaya’s intervention in granting more computers to his school would not only help Romeo but all students of the school to learn and be market ready for better jobs.Today due to the pandemic, multiple students need computers to continue their learning even during tough time. Smart Classrooms to be prepared for Job Market

Digital Classroom is a key venture of the Government of Meghalaya. Under this program, the Government is providing various infrastructure and educational support like Digital Content with MBOSE mapped content, Furniture, Smart board, 2KVA UPS, Printer and to facilitate better education system, the schools are equipped with desktops, printer, LAN, internet and UPS.Debraj Nag, a bright student of Meghalaya, from Laban Bengalee Boys Higher Secondary School, Shillong was worried when due to Covid pandemic in 2020-21, the classes were discontinued and it affected his academic studies. His HSSLC was scheduled amidst the Covid-19 second wave, this effectively meant no opportunity for physical classes throughout his final year.However, in these tough times, smart classroom initiative helped Debraj to continue his studies. The availability of digital content ensured Debraj has the right material and can connect with his teachers through the smart classroom. With the government support and his own effort, Debraj secured 1st Position in the Top 10 Merit list in the Higher Secondary School Leaving Certificate Examination (Commerce), 2021.

Digital Classroom-A Key Venture Of Meghalaya Government

Supporting Human Capital Development Project intended to increase capacity and responsiveness of technical and vocational education and training in Meghalaya. As part of the program, several teachers were trained, who in-turn were appointed as Trainer/Facilitator during the Additional Training for Govt. Secondary &amp; Higher Secondary Teachers.One such trainer, Shri Aibantiplang Rynjah, Assistant Teacher in Mawkhar Christian Higher Secondary School, Shillong is shining example of the outcome of the program. During tumultuous Covid-19 phase, when students were not able to attend classes, Aibantiplang Rynjah stepped up and planned to launch a website where he can upload videos and lectures for students. Due to financial constraint, he launched a YouTube channel entitled “Minot Thop”, and continued imparting knowledge to students. Now, his channel has 1300 subscribers and 18230 views as on August 2021.His effort was recognized at the National Level- Winners of State Level Science Exhibition and Participation in The Eastern India Science and Engineering Fair, Kolkata. Recognized and awarded for contribution to DIKSHA National Portal, presented by the Hon’ble Education Minister, Govt. of Meghalaya at DERT office, Shillong. Government of Meghalaya is proud of such teachers and endeavors to support more such teachers in near future.

An Inspiring Teacher

In Meghalaya, there are 14,730 schools with a staff capacity of 56,488 teachers. The government is working to enhance its infrastructure by constructing 39 Eklavya Modern Residential Schools, enhance the educational infrastructure of schools, improve teacher’s skills through capacity building programs, expansion of the existing vocational education programs, and infrastructure and technology up-gradation of 208 schools across the state.
